Synthetic media: Revolution or Challenge?
Synthetic media is content created entirely with the help of AI. Videos, articles, images, music — none of this is necessarily the result of human labor. AI learns, adapts, and produces a product that is difficult to distinguish from original creativity. But what does this mean for us?
On the one hand, this is a colossal revolution. Brands can create marketing content faster, educational projects get access to interactive materials, and small businesses can compete with giants using the same tools. Time and resources are saved, and the barriers to entry into the media market are lowered.
On the other hand, many questions arise. If algorithms write news, who is responsible for its reliability? How do we determine where creativity is and where it is just machine processing of templates? And most importantly, are we ready for the fact that the humanity in content may gradually blur?
Synthetic media also has a dark side. Deepfake videos, fake news, generated emotional stories — all of this can manipulate public opinion, complicating the search for truth. And in art: will poems written by AI be valued on par with the works of a living author?
The question of balance is key here. Technology is always a tool, but how do we apply it? Perhaps synthetic media is a chance to rethink the role of humans in content creation. People can focus on complex, conceptual tasks, handing over the routine to algorithms. But this requires awareness and new approaches to ethics, regulation and education.
The bottom line? Synthetic media is the future that has already arrived. The only question is whether we will make this future better.
