How Technologies Can Save or Destroy the Planet

In just three years, the Arctic could be free of ice. This is what climate scientists say, and for our planet, this is no longer just a “sad wake-up call,” but a real alarm signal. Many people think that global warming is a problem of the distant future, but the figures and facts say otherwise: everything is happening right now, before our eyes.

We live in an era of rapid technological progress. It seems that the solutions to all problems — from medical to transport — lie in innovations and computers. But here’s the paradox: the same computer models that help us build complex neural networks and automate production now predict climate change that can change our lives. And these are not “distant hypotheses of scientists,” these are mathematically calculated scenarios for the near future.

In three years, an ice-free Arctic could become not just a line in a scientific report, but the beginning of an “ominous era.” This means even more extreme weather: record heat, abnormal cold, unexpected droughts or prolonged downpours. We are used to thinking that technology always gives us an advantage, but what if some of the progress has become a catalyst for these changes?

We can already do a lot: develop artificial intelligence, print organs on 3D printers, and create electric cars. But are we ready to use this technological arsenal to prevent climate change or at least mitigate its consequences? This is the key question of our time.

If we want progress to work for us and not against us, we need to act. It is important not only to take the “profitable” and “convenient”, but also to ask ourselves difficult questions: how to reduce emissions, how to use innovation to protect the planet and not destroy it. After all, technology is a tool, not an end. And if we fail to cope with climate change, then the future generation will look at our “great time of innovation” not as an era of progress, but as a period of missed opportunities.
