Will Robots Surpass the Earth’s Population?
Elon Musk's recent loud statement at the Saudi Arabia FII summit is thought-provoking. As usual, his forecasts are mind-boggling - 10 billion humanoid robots by 2040! Let's take a look at this calmly, without unnecessary emotion.
First things first: the price of $20-25 thousand per robot looks quite realistic, given the pace of technological development. It's like a good mid-range car. But the quantity... Honestly, the figure of 10 billion robots seems too optimistic to me.
What's really interesting is the forecast for the development of national AI models. Here I tend to agree with Musk. We are already seeing how different countries are striving for technological sovereignty in the field of AI. This is logical and inevitable.
But the estimate of Tesla's potential value at $25 trillion thanks to the Optimus robot... Well, Elon has always been famous for his bold statements. Although, who knows? Twenty years ago, few believed in the success of private space companies.
What really worries me is: are we ready for such a future? Not from a technical point of view, but from a social and ethical one. How will the labor market change? How will the relationship between people and robots be built?
My opinion: technological evolution is inevitable, but the pace that Musk predicts seems too high. The reality will probably be somewhere in the middle between today and his bold predictions.
