Privacy is Not a Crime, or Is It?

Should the platform’s owner be responsible for abuses occurring through their platform? In light of Durov’s arrest the question is widely debated in mass media. Despite French authorities’ attempts to frame their actions as a response to serious crimes facilitated through Telegram, public opinion appears to lean in favor of the platform.

Elon Musk, SpaceX and Tesla CEO, reacted with a series of tweets and the #FreePavel hashtag. Tucker Carlson, the former FOX News host and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have voiced their concerns for free speech in Europe.


Tech entrepreneur Kyle Chassé made a provocative statement: “Privacy is not a crime. We live in a world where we supposedly have freedom of speech and privacy. Then why did the arrest Telegram’s founder. They want us controlled. They want us silenced. They want us to live according to their narrative”


Though Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, criticized Telegram’s policies before, he admitted that Durov’s arrest is troubling and raises concerns for the future. Paul Graham, a famous writer, suggests that the incident could damage France’s reputation as a hub for startups. By the way, Chris Pavlovski, head of Rumble, departed from Europe after Pavel Durov’s arrest.


Edward Snowden accused Emmanuel Macron of descending to hostages-taking to access private communications. The backlash against French President was so intense that he felt compelled to respond asserting that Durov’s arrest was “in no way a political decision”. Yet, the question remains: if it wasn’t political, why is Durov in jail after refusing to cooperate as the government tries to control the messenger?

I think it's crucial for society to remain vigilant and not let such issues be swept aside. This case can set a precedent of how governments interact with tech platforms and their founders.

Tether leaves the crypto community When we talk about cryptocurrencies, we imagine something independent, free from traditional finance. Who Owns the Mr. 100 Cryptowallet and What Does Upbit Have to Do With it?  Over the past two months, I've been keeping a close eye on the unusual activity of one Bitcoin wallet nicknamed "Mr. 100." This wallet regularly received deposits of exactly 100 BTC every few days, which led to certain thoughts.
