Elon Musk on the population crisis in the US
Elon Musk warned of an impending population crisis and called for as many children as possible.
Musk himself successfully follows his call, he has 11 children from 3 women.
Musk’s warning does not apply to all of humanity, but to developed countries where fertility is declining and indigenous populations are declining. In developing countries, the population is growing quite well.
Population decline does not in itself mean the death of a particular country. We live in a global world, and the decline of indigenous populations is compensated by migrants. And there are several possibilities here:
• Migrants are fully assimilated, adopting culture, customs and traditions.
• There is no assimilation, migrants change the culture of the country of residence.
• Migrants, while in the minority, form a closed community.
These options cannot be considered good or bad. From the libertarian point of view, a person has the right to freely choose his place of residence. It is just to understand that migratory flows are changing the socio-cultural landscape. Such changes are natural, and the day they are examples in history.
An excellent example of the assimilation of migrants is the ancient Roman Empire. At the beginning of the first century of our era it was the Roman Empire. Emperor Augustus worried about the decline of the birth rate among the citizens of Rome and issued a decree demanding to have children. It did not work. Within 100 years, Rome was mostly inhabited by people from the provinces. A hundred years later, Romans as a nation practically did not exist, and even emperors had a provincial origin. But they adopted Roman culture and were fully assimilated.
Will Musk’s call change the situation? Of course not. You can’t have children out of a sense of social responsibility. We are dealing with a complex socio-psychological phenomenon and it is almost impossible to influence it by verbal intervention.
